Fractional Laser Resurfacing

The ResurFACE® fractional resurfacing laser was voted ‘Most Innovative Aesthetic Treatment of 2014’ when it was launched. We are delighted to have this treatment available here at Clinic10.

Many men and women in the UK suffer from skin conditions and have concerns that they are ‘with them for life’, and that they have no real treatment solution. Fractional skin resurfacing laser technology was introduced with the aim of delivering results comparable to the traditional fully ablative resurfacing procedures, but without the associated prolonged downtime.

This award winning fractional laser treatment, ResurFace stimulates your skin’s natural healing process, resulting in accelerated collagen production and renewal process, renewing the skins surface for dramatic rejuvenation for your skin, leaving it smooth, glowing and more even. Our most anti-ageing laser procedure, fractional laser can treat lines and wrinkles, improve overall skin tone, elasticity and restore a youthful glow. Fractional laser resurfacing finally offers a solution for acne scarring, sun damaged skin and stretchmarks too. It’s now a popular solution for some of the more challenging skin problems that some of us face.

The Process of Fractional Skin Resurfacing

During Fractional Laser Treatments, a clinician will use a specialised device to target minute sections of the skin with controlled laser light. This penetrates the tissue, causing small columns of thermal damage, which in turn, stimulates significant collagen renewal.

The surrounding non-affected areas of skin aid the body’s natural recovery process, allowing dramatic results without significant downtime. The healing process that is automatically triggered by the trauma of the heat stimulates the production of fibroblasts, which then encourage collagenesis.

Collagenesis is the name given to the process of new collagen production. Both collagen and elastin are renewed during this treatment, and once produced, the fibroblasts create a cover over the new collagen cells, banking them. Banked, this collagen will continue to improve on the skin for months post-procedure; so, clients can watch as their skin improves.

Collagen and elastin are two very vital proteins of the skin, bones and muscles. Both components keep the structure of our bodies and skin intact, while also keeping the surface smooth, tight and firm. As we age, both of these proteins begin to decline, leading us to crack, wrinkle and sag. Fractional Resurfacing Devices are able to counteract these consequences of the ageing of the skin.

Why opt for fractional SKin Resurfacing Laser treatment?

Fractional Lasers came about as people wanted great results on certain conditions such as scarring, stretch marks, lines and wrinkles, but they wanted to minimise the ‘downtime’. They have been ‘fractionalated’ meaning they only directly treat small portions of the skin, but these areas then stimulate the other sections of skin to respond. Amongst other treatments, we also use this award winning ablative fractional laser here at Clinic 10.

ResurFACE, Fractional Laser – delivers very similar treatments results as other, more aggressive treatments such as CO2 laser and injectable options but with very few side effects and a much shorter downtime period, it is a gentler but very effective treatment which still achieves fantastic results.  Depending on your skin concern you may need a few more treatments and if the problem is significant.

Fractional Laser Treatments FAQs

We’ve answered some of the most common Fractional Laser Treatment questions for you.

As a non-invasive treatment, Fractional Laser Treatments have been said not to cause any pain. A warm, flicking type of sensation has been known to be felt during treatment, as well as some mild stinging. Post-treatment, the skin is usually hot to the touch, so the area is soothed with a cooling solution to minimise this discomfort.

This treatment is accessible to most people, but we highly recommend it for individuals wanting a brighter, more even skin tone, a smoother skin texture with improved skin elasticity, a reduction of wrinkles, a pore reduction or an improvement of the appearance of scarring (including acne scars) and stretch marks.

To begin with, the clinician will cleanse the area of the skin that is being treated; then, they will place the handpiece onto the cleansed area. This device delivers microscopic laser beams into the dermis of the skin. These laser beams do not damage the surface of the skin; they focus entirely on the skin tissues found beneath.

A typical treatment can take from 10 to 40 minutes, but this is very much dependent on the skin condition and the scale of the area being treated. After treatment, the clinician will cool the treated area. Protective eyewear must be worn during treatment.

In terms of aftercare, you will be given instructions for you to follow so that you encourage the best possible results. Immediately after the treatment, you will experience a mild sunburnt sensation for a few hours; this tends to get hotter over the 12 hours following treatment. The area of skin may also be red and swollen for 1 to 2 days.

Do not fear; this is normal as it is a sign that the skin is healing at a deep level. Swelling is likely but minimal and will resolve in 2 to 3 days. As the healing process begins, your skin may become 'bronzed' or patchy; this appearance lasts from 3 to 10 days, depending on the treatment level. The new renewed surface of the skin will also naturally exfoliate for a few days.

The results of Fractional Laser Resurfacing are impeccable; clients are left with smooth, clear and plump skin that looks years younger.

Improvement of the skin is evident after the first session, but for optimum results, 3 to 5 treatment sessions are often advised. Treatments are carried out every 2 to 6 weeks, depending upon the level of rejuvenation required.

As a non-invasive procedure, side effects are rare, but they can be and are not limited to small blisters, darkening of the skin and some redness; these effects are temporary.
