Pigment removal treatments

Freckles, sun spots, liver or age spots and other unwanted pigmentation are often associated with skin ageing, overexposure to the sun causing sun damage or using sunbeds and tanning rooms. Generally, these pigmentation spots pose no health risk, however, they can be unsightly and create a patchy, uneven and less youthful appearance.  Freckling, sun spots, age spots and pigmented lesions are an extremely popular treatment and can be very successfully lightened or removed here at Clinic 10 with  Intense Pulse Light (IPL). Dramatic results with very little downtime at all, some times just one or two sessions are enough to achieve the desired results!

Why would you choose this treatment?

  • Great if you’re after a more even skin tone
  • You want to reduce areas of excess freckling
  • You are concerned with a certain age spot/freckle

How does the Pigment removal work?

Our pigmentation treatments work by a clinician using an IPL device that precisely targets areas of the pigmented skin using controlled, short pulses of light. The light energy targets discolouration (brown and red lesions) to create a more youthful, even complexion.

This is due to the light stimulating the natural production of new collagen and elastin. By causing trauma to the skin, the body begins its natural healing process, thus producing new fibroblast cells, and igniting our skin with the two most prominent rejuvenating proteins that all work to heal the skin.

Dramatically evening out skin tone and reduced pigmented lesions.

Our Pigmentation treatment Process

A consultation procedure prior to the treatment is compulsory. The consultation is conducted by one of our clinicians, and you will be required to provide us with a medical history so that we can confirm that you are suitable for your chosen treatment. This is also an excellent opportunity for you to voice any concerns or questions that you may have.

Our consultations are usually informal but thorough. Before proceeding, you will be asked to sign a consent form; this consultation form will be sent to you upon booking through our website.

We are a team of dedicated, and fully qualified and experienced clinicians who all have the same goal as you: to meet your desired results. Like you, we want you to feel confident in your skin, so we will make it our mission to exceed your expectations in doing so.

pigment removal FAQS

We’ve put together the answers to some of the most common questions we are asked about Pigment Removal Treatments.

The answer to this question is more than likely, yes. Most people are suitable for pigment removal, but we do require all clients to attend a consultation beforehand so that we can ascertain your suitability, as well as tailor a treatment plan to ensure that we achieve your desired results.

By creating you a bespoke treatment plan, we can give you the best chances at meeting the outcome that you are envisioning, and ensure that your skin is looked after to the best of our abilities.

IPL Pigment Removal treatments are known to be mildly uncomfortable, so we do not administer anaesthesia pre-treatment. Most people describe the sensation as a quick pinprick and a warming feeling.

As a non-invasive treatment, IPL Pigment Removal side effects can be and are not limited to redness, swelling, blistering and lightening or darkening of the skin. Immediately post-treatment is when the skin is seen to be red and swollen, and then very rarely a small blister may form, as well as pigmentation. However, most people experience no side effect, and if they do, the skin reaction usually subsides within a few hours.

Again, redness and a slight warming sensation may be felt, but this is normal. A clinician will cool the skin to keep it calm. Darkening may occur on the pigmented spots on your skin, but this will then turn into micro crusts which will then flake off, leaving an even skin tone.

Tightening and firming of the area of skin treated will continue over the following months as new collagen and elastin are produced within the dermis.

Our Pigment Removal treatments tend to be carried out every 2 to 3 weeks, and can be up to 6 treatments for optimum results. Thereafter, top-up sessions are performed when required, but typically, once or twice a year.

The process begins by the specialised light applicator being placed onto the problem area before a short pulse of light is released. The handpiece is then moved onto the neighbouring areas until the entire area is treated. During the treatment, protective eye-wear will be provided.

Photo-rejuvenation treatments can vary in time, but typically, they take between 20-45 minutes depending on the size of the treated area.
